On Father's Day, June 17, Hans Florine and Alex Honnold smashed the speed climbing record on the 3000-foot-high Nose of El Capitan in Yosemite Valley, climbing the route in only 2 hours, 23 minutes, and 46 seconds. This broke the previous 2:36:45 record set in 2010 by Dean Potter and Sean Leary by almost 13 minutes.
